Stonemason
Illustration & Book Design
This project allowed me to experiment with colour and simplicity.
In a university workshop on book and illustration design, I created a series of illustrations for a Chinese folktale about a stonemason who learns that true strength lies in contentment after transforming into various powerful forces of nature.
For the style, I drew subtle inspiration from Chinese communist posters, using vibrant red aquarelle and simplified silhouettes to give the illustrations a bold yet minimal look. The red was a nod to the power dynamics in the story, while keeping the overall design clean and focused.
This project allowed me to experiment with color and simplicity, while staying true to the theme of the folktale.
